Take rising violent crime seriously

  • Hold City and County officials accountable for providing the resources necessary required to get repeat violent criminals off Akron’s streets.
  • More resources for gun violence reduction, including evidence-based technology to monitor crime in real time, support for APD Gun Violence Reduction Task Force, and stiffer penalties for those found carrying or distributing illegal guns.
  • Invest in APD community policing capacity to rebuild trust and neighborhood visibility.
  • Support neighbors in sustaining existing, and creating new, block watch organizations.
  • Hardy secured the first grants supporting Akron’s Youth Violence Prevention plan, he will advocate making violent crime reduction a city-wide priority.

Slow down speeding cars

  • Hardy brought speed tables to Akron, but we need more. He plans to advocate for at least 10 locations per ward, each summer, to target problem areas.
  • Supports the use of hand-held photo speed cameras for APD to utilize while on patrol in residential areas.
  • Continue speed cameras in school zones.

Invest in parks and recreation

  • Increase investment in, and maintenance of, Ward 8 parks.
  • Advocate for facility assessment and reinvestment plan for NW Rec Center.
  • More youth engagement and programming, especially during after-school hours.
  • Hardy created the Akron Parks Challenge and will work with neighborhood leaders to bring a Challenge grant to Ward 8.
